About Life Of Doing

by Life Of Doing

“The world is the true classroom. The most rewarding and important type of learning is through experience, seeing something with our own eyes.” – Jack Hanna

Welcome to Life Of Doing! We are Jackie and Justin, the creators of our blog, Life Of Doing. We’re a married couple who loves to go on adventures and travel around the world! Originally from the Bay Area in California, U.S. and currently living and working in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Life Of Doing is a blog for working professionals who love spending outdoors, finding new adventures (especially hiking!), and traveling to places on a reasonable budget (and some occassional splurges). We’re here to share with you travel itineraries ranging from short weekend trips, such as 2 days in Penang, Malaysia, to multi-week adventures, such as 2 weeks in South Vietnam to inspire you with your own travel plans. All of the places that we’ve been to have been paid for by us, so you’re guaranteed honest feedback on where to go.

This is the perfect place to embrace our motto of “life of doing rather than a life of waiting.” There isn’t a reason why you cannot go somewhere now or wait until you retire at 65.

Ready to explore more of Life Of Doing? Start by checking out the destinations that we’ve been to. As you can see, we’ve focused a lot of Asia as we love everything about Asia.

Since launching this blog in late 2016, we love to hear from our readers. Feel free to write a comment or provide feedback in the blog post or send us a note. We’ll respond back ASAP!

How Life Of Doing Got Started

We met in college and graduated in 2007. It was challenging times to find well paying jobs due to the recession. We lived with our parents, worked hard, and pinched pennies until we could afford our own house, wedding, and honeymoon in 2010. For the honeymoon, we wanted to see something different, ancient, and mysterious, and Greece was the perfect choice. We booked a two week tour, packed a huge check-in luggage, and went on our first major adventure halfway across the world.

The trip was amazing with historic learnings and exposure to the ancient Greek lifestyle and ruins. The a-ha moment during the trip was how 90% of the tour group was over the retirement age of 65 and many had difficulties climbing stairs or walking long distances.

Something clicked in us – will we work our whole lives to retire “comfortably” only to be unable to “comfortably” enjoy our retirement? No way! We have to do as much as we can now!

Our passion for doing things and planning what and where to go next is a part of our lifestyle. Thus, Life Of Doing was created to share with everyone how working professionals can balance both travels and work.
