One Year of Blogging Reflections

One Year of Blogging Reflections

Happy one year and 8 days to our Life Of Doing blog! We can’t believe that a year has passed by quickly. It’s been quite the journey when we launched the blog on November 1, 2016 and have enjoyed every moment! In the beginning of our blogging stage, we stayed up late to write content due to the excitement. Sometimes we were stuck on figuring out a new WordPress plugin. We’re still blogging newbies and the experience is worth it….

Fun Day at Artinus 3D Art Museum in Ho Chi Minh City

Fun Day at Artinus 3D Art Museum in Ho Chi Minh City

Need a family friendly and unique place to take photographs in Ho Chi Minh City? We highly recommend a visit to Artinus, a 3D art museum where guests transport themselves to various illusions. There are two floors and various themes, such as geometric shapes, animals, underwater, traveling to various parts of Vietnam, optical illusions with furniture, and much more. Located in District 7, it’s one of the best things to do if you have a couple hours and you can…

We Hiked Mount Whitney in One Day and Survived

We Hiked Mount Whitney in One Day and Survived

We need to get a t-shirt that says, “Hiked Mount Whitney in One Day and Survived.” Hiking Mount Whitney was on our bucket list, especially as it is the highest peak in the contiguous 48 U.S. states at 14,505 feet and over 7,100 feet of elevation gain. It was an ambitious challenge to hike the 22 miles round-trip on the out-and-back trail in one day, and we did it two weeks ago! The hike itself wasn’t easy in one day….

Our Amazing Visit to Hobbiton Movie Set in New Zealand

Our Amazing Visit to Hobbiton Movie Set in New Zealand

Visiting Hobbiton Movie Set is one of the biggest attractions in New Zealand. We highly recommend it even if you haven’t seen the movies or read the books. It was one of the most memorable and coolest things to see during our travels. You’ll be amazed by all of the details and effort put into the Shire such as the hobbit holes, local garden, and even the trees. Plus, you’re on the famous movie set where Elijah Wood and Sir…

Two Days in Rotorua, New Zealand – Mud Pools, Geothermal Springs, and Hiking

Two Days in Rotorua, New Zealand – Mud Pools, Geothermal Springs, and Hiking

Our travels in New Zealand got better and better. We loved our one day in Auckland, and Rotorua we loved even more. The area is super green, woodsy, and peaceful. It’s an awesome place for the adrenaline junkies and outdoor explorers. Plus, it has zorbing (where you are a ‘human hamster’ and roll down a hill inside a giant ball), geothermal pools, Maori culture, mountain biking, hiking, and much more. We can literally spend over a week here and would not…

Spending One Beautiful Day in Auckland, New Zealand

Spending One Beautiful Day in Auckland, New Zealand

With just 5 days in New Zealand we decided to spend our time in North Island and Auckland was our main travel hub. Auckland exemplifies the city life with the downtown high rises, numerous neighborhoods, chic restaurants and boutique stores, and a fast pace environment. Yet, it’s one of the coolest cities that we visited and has awesome outdoor activities for all ages. You can easily spend 3 to 4 days here to soak in the various charms of the…

How To Explore Sydney During A 12 Hour Layover

How To Explore Sydney During A 12 Hour Layover

What can you see during a 12 hour layover in Sydney? Luckily you can see a whole lot of the downtown city area! We recently traveled from from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to Auckland, New Zealand via Thai Airways and had a 8 hour layover in Bangkok, Thailand and a 12 hour layover in Sydney, Australia. Yes, there are direct flights to go to Auckland, but we used United Airlines award points for our travels. We don’t mind the…

Flight Review: Thai Airways SGN to BKK and BKK to SYD in Business Class

Flight Review: Thai Airways SGN to BKK and BKK to SYD in Business Class

Periodically, airlines devalue their miles. United Airlines is one of the airlines that we earn travel award points through credit card sign on bonuses. In June 2017, United was kind enough to notify us that they will devalue their MileagePlus miles on November 1, 2017. The opportunity allowed us to figure out where to visit next within the next few months. We always wanted to visit Australia and New Zealand, or visit other parts of Asia such as Malaysia. One…

Visit Narita for a Layover in Japan

Visit Narita for a Layover in Japan

Have a long layover at Narita International Airport in Japan? You’re in luck as there are plenty of things to do outside of the airport. Take advantage of the extra time to explore and see other parts of Japan. On my recent travel from Ho Chi Minh City to the San Francisco Bay Area on ANA Airlines, I had a 10 hour layover in Narita and didn’t want to spend the time in the airport. I decided to explore the…

Top 10 Good Eats in Japan

Top 10 Good Eats in Japan

We loved our travels to Japan back in February 2015, and would not hesitate to go back. The food, culture, cleanliness (even in the public bathrooms), safety, and easy use of public transportation provided us one of the best travel experiences. Japan has our favorites of nearly everything – snacks (Calbee store and Pocky stores!), cute characters that we’ve grown up with (Sanrio and San-X), anime, and more. We were in Japan to run the Tokyo Marathon and spent two…
