Ho Chi Minh City has plenty of burger places to try, including vegetarian burger with cheese, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and pickles with a side of fries.

Where are the best burgers in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam? New burger shops have rapidly popped up in the city making it one of the hottest topics in the HCMC’s Foodie Facebook group

After living in Ho Chi Minh for over three years, we’ve eaten our fair share of local Vietnamese cuisine and sometimes want to balance our palates with other international treats. The foodie culture is strong in Saigon and you can even find some fantastic all-American burgers, good enough to make us reminisce about the taste of home.

So, we’ve been on a mission to find as many places to eat burgers as possible. As long as it has a solid bun and a patty that holds up after each bite, we’re there!

In this post, we’re sharing the 9 yummiest places to eat burgers in Ho Chi Minh City, including vegetarian and vegan burger options. The list is in no particular order so you can try any of the places whenever you’re visiting a certain area. We’ve also included information such as location and average pricing in Vietnamese dong and U.S dollars. (Expect to pay higher prices for Western food.) These restaurants also accept cash and credit cards as payment.

One thing to note: we’ve eaten at all of these places and paid for the meals ourselves so we’re not getting compensated for any of these reviews.

We’ll continue to add to this post when we try more restaurants. Now, let’s eat at these burger spots!

Note: These restaurants are not close together so you’ll need a mode of transportation to travel. Either ride a motorbike or take a taxi or ride-hailing vehicle for your travels.

1. Burger Boss

Burger Boss is one of the latest burger places to open up in the Thao Dien area. It doesn’t disappoint with creative homemade burger fillings and potato brioche buns. This place has beef (made with Australian beef), chicken, and vegan/vegetarian options.

The Fire Chicken burger (or is it a sandwich?!) is a twice-fried buttermilk chicken thigh and great for those who love fried chicken. The double-fried makes the chicken super moist and it’s bursting with chili and spices.

Burger Boss is a fantastic burger place to try in Ho Chi Minh City.

Vegetarians and vegans will love plant-based patties. There is a vegetarian burger with cheese and a vegan burger with a vegan bun. The patty is made out of mushrooms, beans, and nuts and has a good texture and flavor. We tried the vegetarian version and liked how the patty held up after each bite.

Here is the vegetarian burger at Burger Boss. A vegan one is also available.

Fries are a must as they’re double-fried. They’re super crispy and delicious with the cajun spices.

If you visit with your dogs, there are dog-friendly treats with adorable names such as “Pupsicle,” a frozen popsicle made with beef broth and beef cubes, and “Puppaburger,” an unseasoned beef patty.

Address: 43 Nguyễn Cừ, Thảo Điền, District 2

Average Prices: 130,000 VND ($5.60 USD). Fries are not included.

Vegetarian-friendly: Yes

2. Happy Cow Vegan Burgers

Happy Cow Vegan Burgers is a 100% plant-based burger shop in Ho Chi Minh City. The vegan patty is unique as it’s made with beans, mushrooms, and nuts. Recently the patty mixture has been upgraded so it’s more “beef-ish” than before. Regardless, the patty is delicious!

The Origin is a vegan burger with vegan mayo and ketchup. It’s a classic hamburger.

If you’re a cheeseburger fan, then try Cow’s Union. The extra slice of vegan cheese (homemade from cashews) gives the burger extra flavor. It’s what we tend to order every time.

Other burgers on the menu include pulled king oysters mushroom, deep-fried chicken patty, and a monthly special.

The french fries are a must-have. While we tend to like the original fries, you can make them extra special with the vegan cheddar cheese or buffalo-style with cheese, caramelized onions, and pulled BBQ mushrooms.

We haven’t eaten at the restaurant yet, but have done a handful of delivery orders. Happy Cow uses all eco-friendly packaging, including the bag, which is a huge plus to reduce plastic usage.

Average Prices: 135,000-205,000 VND ($5.90-$9.00) Fries are not included.

Vegetarian-friendly: 100% vegan!

3. Chuck’s Burgers

While we love trying different gourmet burgers, sometimes we’re craving that juicy burger. Chuck’s Burger is your answer for American-style burgers. Think In-N-Out style.

We can see why this popular place is highly regarded as one of the best burgers in Ho Chi Minh City. Choose from a standard to a double cheeseburger and other items such as BBQ pulled pork, hot dogs, BLT, and grilled cheese sandwich.

The Double Cheeseburger is always a winner with the double beef patties. It’s the most frequently ordered item whenever we bring guests to this place.

Fries are a must. While the plain regular fries are standard, nacho cheese, chili, and BBQ pork fries add an extra spin.

If you order a soda, you get unlimited free refills with your order. Plus, this place serves your soda in a glass bottle. Yay for sustainability and real (not high fructose corn syrup) sugar.

A healthier option is ordering fresh juices and smoothies. We tried the Energy Boost smoothie which had pineapple, apple, spinach, chocolate mint, chia seeds, and nuts. It was delicious and refreshing.

Unfortunately, this place doesn’t have many vegetarian options. There is a grilled cheese sandwich on the menu, but no vegetarian burger. Hope there is a veggie option in the future.

Chuck’s Burger is a must visit burger shop in Ho Chi Minh City.

Addresses:

  • 71 Pasteur, Bến Nghé, District 1
  • 46 Phạm Viết Chánh, Bình Thạnh District, Ward 19

Average Prices: 100,000-180,000 VND ($4.30-$7.80). Juices and smoothies start at 70,000 VND ($3.00). Fries are not included.

Vegetarian-friendly: No, veggie burger. The options are grilled cheese, fries, juices, and smoothies.

4. Cafe Tartine

Cafe Tartine is a delicious bakery for artisan sourdough bread. They’re popular for their sourdough baked goods such as croissants and brownies. Besides baked goods, they also offer salads, sandwiches, and burgers. The burgers were recommended in the Foodie Facebook groups, so we had to try them for ourselves.

The menu has two burgers – Chef’s Burger and Veggies Burger. Each comes with a set of onion rings and fries.

One of the noteworthy things about these burgers is the height. They are TALL. It’s a bit tricky to eat in one bite unless you squish the bread and the stuffing together or open your mouth super wide. Otherwise, a fork and knife are provided.

The Chef’s Burger is the burger to get. It has a well-prepared patty (slightly pink and not overcooked) made from tender beef and has layers of lettuce, tomatoes, mushrooms, cheddar cheese, and fried egg within a nice brioche bun. It’s one of the best buns that we’ve eaten.

The Chef’s Burger is highly recommended at Cafe Tartine.

The Veggies Burger is 100% vegan. It’s a thick chickpea patty (pretty much a flat falafel) with avocado, cucumber, and vegan basil ricotta spread. The burger is presented beautifully on the wooden plate and the overall flavors were delicious. The only opportunity for improvement is to improve the moisture in the patty as it’s a bit dry for my liking.

Vegetarian-friendly: Yes

5. Merlion Cafe

Merlion Cafe offers a variety of burgers with beef patties and deep-fried chicken with its homemade black sesame brioche buns. This is one of the best bang for your buck places as the prices are relatively low for a sizable burger. The bun is also delicious!

Try the Le Sud Chicken Burger (actually “sandwich”) and the Double Cheeseburger. The Le Sud Chicken Burger is simply a nice spicy piece of lightly battered chicken, caramelized onions, sweet pickles, lettuce, and tomatoes held together by the brioche bun.

The Double Cheeseburger has a 150g beef patty with 2 slices of cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, and sweet pickles. You can also get the regular cheeseburger which is also a fantastic choice.

The vegetarian option is an egg burger which comes with a fried egg, cheddar cheese, and the fixing of grilled onions, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, and special sauce. At first, it didn’t sound appetizing but it’s surprisingly good!

Add an order of potato wedges. They’re crispy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. We prefer eating these over the fries.

We haven’t dined at this place as we usually do a delivery order from this place. The meal holds up during delivery.

6. Eddie’s New York Deli & Diner

Eddie’s New York Deli and Diner is an American diner from the food to the decor. Since we’re from the U.S, Eddie’s American food and portion size are exactly what it would taste and feel like back at home

While there are plenty of breakfast items (which are available all day), sandwiches, homemade milkshakes on the menu, we’re here for the burgers. All burgers come with your choice of sides of salad, coleslaw, fries, or sweet potato fries.

The classic burgers are made with 100% U.S. beef. Choose from a ¼ or ⅓ pound patty with lettuce and tomato or choose a grilled chicken fillet burger. The classic ¼ pound burger is recommended to be cooked to medium and they know how to do it correctly

The burger is juicy and very pink inside as it should. The buttery sesame seed bun is soft with crispy edges. It isn’t the largest burger we’ve had but it’s quite a good size and balance which is our usual preference. The quality of ingredients and taste is definitely there. Fresh, hot, crispy made-to-order fries are a nice side to add.

Eddie’s also has a veggie burger! The vegetarian food is branded as “Shelley’s Vegetarian Comfort” food. This was one of the tastiest vegetarian burgers in Ho Chi Minh City that we’ve eaten.

The veggie patty is made with spinach, lentils, beans, eggs, and spices. You can also add toppings such as mushroom, swiss cheese, and onions (highly recommended!), Tex-Mex, 3 Bean Chili and Cheddar, and California style with American cheese. We like how the bun and patty are wider compared to other restaurants so it seems like we’re getting more burger for the money.

Adding a milkshake also completes the meal. The peanut butter and salted caramel milkshake is an awesome choice. It isn’t overly sweet with a bit of whipped cream and a maraschino cherry on top. Upgrade to a large to get some extra milkshake on the side.

Stop by Eddie’s to try the All-American burgers.

Addresses:

  • Main store: 71 Đường Thảo Điền, Thảo Điền, District 2
  • 73 Pasteur Street, District 1 (Next to Liberty Central Hotel)

Average Prices for Burgers: 149,000-229,000 VND ($6.50-$10). Toppings are an extra 35,000-85,000 VND ($1.50-$3.70) for the vegetarian burger.

Vegetarian-friendly: Yes!

7. Valhalla Grill

Valhalla Grill tends to be a weekly staple for us as it has some of the most affordable burgers in Ho Chi Minh. The menu has a variety of beef burgers – South American beef, Angus beef, Wagyu, and also sandwiches – Scandanavian meatballs, bún chả, chicken, and pulled pork. Plus, there are vegetarian and vegan options. If you don’t want burgers, they also have hot dogs, chili dogs (which we frequently order), and currywurst. The buns are also made in-house.

Depending on the burger, you can choose normal or large size. The main difference for the large size is extra patties. All burgers come with lettuce, cucumber, tomato, onion, and burger dressing.

We’ve tried nearly all the burgers on the menu such as the Yummy Burger made with South American beef, Juicy Burger with U.S. grass-fed Angus beef, Tasty Burger with Angus beef mixed with bacon/onions/garlic, and Wagyu Burger (Japanese beef.)

All are quite delicious with the Tasty Burger having the most flavor due to the mixed in bacon. Adding blue cheese is also a nice addition.

Valhalla Grill’s mac and cheese patty is a decadent addition to any burger.

Vegetarian and vegan options are spot on as there are several options. The vegetarian options are macaroni and cheese, falafel, and a pulled sandwich (not a burger). We’ve tried all of them and they are delicious.

The mac and cheese patty is decadent and oozes cheese. You can also add a mac and cheese patty to any burger or have it by itself sandwiched between two buns. Expect some food coma afterward!

The falafel burger is a solid choice and it comes with tzatziki sauce, while the vegetarian pulled sandwich has tons of flavor from the BBQ sauce. We’re not sure what the vegetarian pulled sandwich is made from, but we’ll guess jackfruit, as the texture is on the soft, mushier side.

The vegan option is the pulled mushroom sandwich with a vegan bun. This one is of our favorites since we love eating mushrooms, and it has a lot of texture.

We tend to a delivery order from this place and everything holds up well during delivery.

Valhalla Grill is a burger chain in Vietnam and it has some tasty vegetarian options.

Address: 97 Xuân Thủy, Thảo Điền, District 2 (There are also locations in Hanoi and Danang.)

Average Prices: 35,000-110,000 VD ($1.50-$4.80). Fries are not included.

Vegetarian-friendly: Yes and vegan options available!

8. Soul Burger

Soul Burger has some pretty unique burgers and they often experiment with new flavors. The burgers are named after American musicians and singers.

For the burgers, choose a thick 180g patty or smashed (crispier edges) 90g patties. The thicker patties will take longer to cook.

For our first visit, we opted for a classic bacon and blue cheese burger – The Blues Brother Smash. The double (2x 90g) patty is quite a large burger. It’s so large that it needs to be served open-faced. The blue cheese is on point but I prefer to eat my burgers with the ability to chomp down on all the flavors with one bite. However, having a burger that’s too big isn’t a complaint as it’s just a preference.

Soul Burger is another good option to eat burgers in Ho Chi Minh.

The vegetarian option is The Jackson 5. The patty is made out of lentils and mushrooms, has a slice of American cheese, caramelized onions, and pickles. It’s also deconstructed on arrival. The patty is yummy and a splash of homemade hot sauce gives an extra kick.

Address: 1st Floor, 4 Đường Phan Bội Châu, Phường Bến Thành, District 1 (Across from Ben Thanh Market)

Average Prices: 110,000-480,000 VND ($4.80-$21.00). Fries are not included.

Vegetarian-friendly: Yes

9. Marcel Burger

Marcel Burger is one of the first burger joints that we tried after moving to Ho Chi Minh City. Located in the heart of District 1, it’s a French burger place with homemade brioche buns and uses Australian grass-fed beef

The menu has a nice variety that can fit most preferences such as Big Marcel with cheddar, Signature with Raclette cheese, Mushy blue with blue cheese, and Smoky with Comté cheese. There is a spicy fried chicken and deep-fried panga fish option as well.

While the classic burgers are tempting, we tried Le Bamboo. It has an Australian beef patty, brie cheese, truffle and garlic aioli, and carrot slow. The refreshing, French-influenced flavors didn’t make me feel as dirty as eating an American-style burger. Sometimes you want to eat a burger that makes you feel dirty, sometimes you don’t. This place is for when you’re feeling for the latter of those two.

The vegetarian option is a falafel patty with zucchini, cucumber, tzatziki, feta cheese, and arugula. It tastes similar to a falafel wrap with the tzatziki and feta cheese added.

Try one of Cafe Marcel’s gourmet burgers on your next visit. Here is the vegetarian burger.

Address: 132 Calmette, Phường Nguyễn Thái Bình, District 1

Average Prices: 150,000-180,000 VND ($6.50-$7.80). Fries are separate.

Vegetarian-friendly: Yes.

Yum!!! I better get to cook dinner now, I am not a vegetarian but would try to replace the beef patty for a tofu or veggie base patty. Thank you for the inspiration 🙂
